Ayurvedic Recipe for Pistachio Date Bread

This recipe will make an average sized loaf of bread which is very healthy due to the dates and pistachios in it. The preparation is also not very difficult and though the preparation time consuming the resulting loaf of bread can be eaten for 4-5 days by 2 people.

Pistachio Date Bread

The recipe is simple and does not require any grueling work on your part.

    • 1 ½ cup unbleached white flour
    • ¼ cup ghee or butter
    • 1 ¼ cup raw of packed sugar
    • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 2 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot
    • 1 ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
    • ½ teaspoon baking soda
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • ½ cup water
    • ½ cup buttermilk
    • 1 cup chopped pistachios
    • 1 cup pitted dates
  • Cream the butter and sugar and apply butter and some flour on a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.
  • When the sugar is well blended in the butter or ghee then adds all the dry ingredients.
  • The dry ingredients should be mixed well beforehand.
  • To this add the butter milk and water mix them till all the ingredients are blended properly.
  • To this add the pistachios and dates.
  • Take this final mixture and spread evenly on the loaf pan.
  • Bake for one hour in an oven that has been pre heated to 350 degree.
  • Make sure that the bread is cooked properly by poking it with a knife, if the knife comes out
  • clean then the loaf is baked sufficiently otherwise it is not yet done.
  • Eating dates alone or with a meal can help people who have type 2 diabetes.
  • Dates can help reduce blood pressure because they have good amount of magnesium which helps in dilating blood vessels and hence reduce blood pressure.
  • Dates also contain choline which is a brain booster because it is a component in the acetylcholine which is a neurotransmitter.
