Dhanyamla Dhara
The term dhanya dhara is taken from a combination of Sanskrit words ‘Dhanya’ and ‘Amla’ that means ‘cereal’ and ‘soured’ or ‘fermented’ respectively. Hence Dhanyamla dhara is the use of fermented cereals and even some other herbal medicines for the treatment of many ailments. Dhara means a stream and hence the term dhanyamla dhara means the pouring of fermented liquid of some cereals, or herbal medicines all over the body of the patient. This treatment is also known as Kanji, Kanjika or arnala.
In case of patients who have hypertension or diabetes this procedure should be done with a caution by an expert therapist. In this procedure it is also necessary to make sure that sweating is not excessive which may lead to dehydration.
This procedure is very beneficial in combating the Ama in the body. Ama is a the by-product of metabolic problems. IT makes the body weak because in this case the gut fire becomes weak. This in turn has a weakening effect on the cells of the whole body. Supply of essentials and nutrients to different parts of the body becomes blocked and this blockage can be opened by doing the procedure of dhanyamla dhara. - According to the ancient texts the dosage of matravasti should be equal to the minimum dosage of the oral consumption of oil or ghee.
- This is the dosage of sneha or fat that the person is able to digest in 6 hours. This is the reason that the dosage of matravasti is different for different people.
- Matravasti can be administered at any time and doesn’t cause any complications.
- The amount of fat used in the administration of matravasti is low hence it is very safe.
- It stays in the colon for 12 hours.
- This vasti can be administered individually and there is no need for giving it with niruhavasti as with other types of vastis.
There are not dietary or lifestyle changes that you need to follow after taking matravasti treatment. This is the reason that the process of taking matravasti treatment is very simple. Your food and other life activities can be same as you follow regularly without much modification.

Aroma Oil Massage

Snehavasti
Snehavasti is a medicated oil enema given to patient as a part of panchkarma therapy or as a therapy in itself. This treatment is a great way to remove toxins from the body and it aids in curing many ailments when used as a treatment on its own. As a part of panchkarma therapy it is used for treating many ailments, including cancer, arthritis and other ailments which are considered incurable in the allopathic system of medicine. Ayurveda with its various treatments and herbal medicines is able to cure many different ailments and provide much needed relief. Let us look at the procedure and benefits of snehavasti. The medicines in the oil used for enema are prescribed depending on the type of ailment being treated. In most ailments along with snehavasti, herbal medicines also need to be consumed orally. This treatment should not be done if the patient is more than 70 years old or there is any problem in the anus or rectum.
Procedure:
- The patient should take light food immediately before the treatment
- The therapist will perform body massage and bath for the patient
- Immediately after the bath the patient should lie down on the cot with the right side of the body upwards. The right leg should be folded and the left should be extended
- The anus and enema nozzle are both lubricated with oil. The enema is given using a metal or glass syringe.
- The syringe plunger should be pressed neither too fast nor slow in a proper manner to allow the medicated oil to pass into the intestines.
- After the administration of the oil the patient should lie face upwards and extend the entire body. There should be a pillow under the heels
- The hands, feet and abdomen should be massaged by a trained therapist.
- This ensures that the sneha (oil) does not come out too early
- Under normal circumstances the injected oil comes out after one or two hours.
- If the enema oil comes out properly at the right time, the patient should fast at night and should take breakfast the next morning.
