Keloid scars: These are similar to hypertrophic scars but quite different too. It is typically much thicker than the original acne spot. They are usually darker than normal skin and can be red or brown. Keloid scars may also cause symptoms, such as itchiness, redness, or pain.

Acne scars can be an unwanted reminder of acne and may reduce self-esteem in some people, but they do not have to be permanent with the help of treatment.
