Kativasthi is an Ayurvedic lumbo-sacral rejuvenation therapy using hot oil or herbal decoctions. One can achieve both local oleation and sudation by this procedure.

  • Medicated oil or herbs for decoction is selected depending on the bodily constitution and the state of the humerus (Doshas) of the persons
  • The dough is made into a ring of four to five inches in diameter which is placed over the lumbosacral area of spine
  • In this process, specially prepared warm medicated oil is kept over the lower back with herbal paste boundary. This treatment fasts for 45 minutes and it is good for any type of back pain and spinal disorders. At the end of the procedure the dough is removed: a gentle massage is given over the area. The person is made to take rest for a while.

    Kati Vasti

Kati means back and kativasti is one of the swedna-snehana treatment methods. Medicated oils are used to alleviate many back pain problems. Ayurveda is a science which is being practiced in India since the last 5000 years. When it comes to back problems like intervertebral disc prolapse, lumber spondylitis, muscle sprain around the spinal column, pain caused by osteoarthritis of the back etc. there is little that allopathic medicine can do. However, if you turn to Ayurveda then the problem gets healed completely if you follow the right lifestyle changes along with taking kativasti treatment.

This Ayurvedic treatment can also be done as a preventive treatment for the back. If you take this treatment regularly as prescribed by the Ayurvedic physician then you will be safe from many back pain problems. It is one of the best treatments for maintaining the health of the bone, muscle, spine, vertebrae and nerves of the lower back.

    Procedure

    • A dough is prepared from special grains and is placed on the affected area in the form of a ring. This ring forms a dam for the medicated oils
    • Medicated oils are poured into this dough dam and allowed to seep into the muscles at a specific temperature and a specific period of time.
    • During this process the oils seep into the tissues and soften the tight and stiff muscles
    • The oil is then removed and the therapist massages the area keeping in mind some marma points. This repairs the tendons and ligaments
    • After this the steam treatment is given on the specific area.

    Benefits of Kativasti

    • The medicated oils at high temperature make the spine less rigid and strengthen the tissue of the bones.
    • The healing properties of the oil deeply cleanse and fortify the blood, strengthen the muscle and connective tissue and lubricate the joints. This makes the joints flexible and free from pain.
    • Kati basti alleviates almost all types of lower back pains
