General Information :

Habit- Succulent glabrous herb, grows upto 4 ft. in height. Stem- Obtusely 4- angled, younger stems are reddish speckled with white. Leave- Variable, decussate, lower leaves are usually simple, upper leaves are 3 to 5 foliate, long petioled. Leaflets are ovate or elliptic crenate or serrate. Inflorescence- Panicle Flowers- Reddish purple in colour. Fruits- Enclosed in persistent papery calyx and corolla. Seeds are small, oblong-ellipsoid. Leaves often produce, on their crenatures at the nished with root, stem and leaves, which drop off and becomes new plants.

Benefits :

External-

Leave paste of Parnabeeja is applied over localised swelling.

    • Poultice for skin ulcer, sprains and insect stings: Grind 7 fresh leaves into a poultice. Apply the poultice evenly to the affected area. Apply a fresh poultice twice a day, morning and night, as often as needed.
    • The pulp f parnabeeja leaves is applied on traumatic injuries.This will arrest the bleeding and pramot the healing of wounds..
    • On traumatic wounds,the heated leaves of Parnabeeja are crushed and applied.This will causes the reduction of edema ad also pramotes the wound healing without leaving the scar.
    • External application of Parnabeeja leave paste is advisiable in burns.
    • Thick coating of Parnabeeja is applied over chronic wounds and ulcers.When it turns black the coating is removed and new paste is applied.
    • In case of Dandruff,leaf juice of Parnabeeja is applied with coconut oil on scalp at night.
    • Polutice of roasted leaves or paste of fresh leaves is applied externally in black eye,inflammation and discoloration caused by bruises.
    • To treat the headache,leaf paste is applied over forehead
    • Warm leaves of Parnabeeja is applied over the area of inflammation,joint pain in arthritis,wounds and sprain
    • 2 drop of Parnabeeja leaf juice is instilled in to eyes in case of eye pain.
    • Warm parnabeeja leaves are applied over the bitten parts of animals.
    • Leaf paste of Parnabeeja is applied topically to treat dermatophytosis.

 

            Internal application:

Its svarasa should be given in raktapravahika, raktarsha and raktapradara being raktastambhana and raktapittashamak.

  • The plant root is used to treat high blood pressure.
  • Rhizome powdered is used for the treatment of constipation.
  • Using juice of this as eardrop heals the ear pain. Its natural remedy for ear pain.
  • Because of anti-diabetic property, it is used for thetreatment of diabetics.
  • It is used as one of home remedies for piles (Hemorrhoids)..Leaf juice of Parnabeeja is taken with black peppar powder in piles.
  • Fresh juice of Parnabeeja leaves is used in the treatment of dysmenorrhea,bleeding piles and fresh wounds.Dose-8-10ml
  • To treat the Dysentery ,decoction of Parnabeeja and bilwa is advisiable.Dose-30-40ml
  • Leaf juice of Parnabeeja is also used in diarrheoa with blood .Dose-10-15ml
  • Leave juice of Parnabeeja (2-5ml) is taken with ghee(4-10ml) and jeera powder.
  • Leave juice of Parnabeeja (1tsf) is taken with Mishri with 1 cup of warm water in abdominal bloating.
  • The fresh juice of Patharchur can be used to treat jaundice.
  • Tea prepared from dried leave of Parnabeeja is used as anti-oxidant.
  • The cold infusion of Parnabeejaa is given to treat dysmenorrhoea.
  • To treat the leucorrhoea,juice of parnabeeja should be taken in a dose of 2tsf,twice a day.
  • To treat stomach disorder,parnabeeja juice should be taken in a dose of 2tsf.
  • Leaf juice of Parnabeeja is given in Ulcerative colitis.
  • For condition like smelly sweat and bad body odour,daily eating of Parnabeeja leaves is advisiable
  • It is the natural treatment for kidney and gallbladder stones.
  • Treats Kidney stones:In case of kidney stones, give 40-50 ml decoction of whole plant twice a day. You can also give the decoction with 500 mg shilajit and 2 gm. of honey mixed in it. Give this twice a day, it cures bile stone easily.
  • Useful in Urinary disorders:Give 5 ml juice of its leaves to the patient suffering from thirst and any disorder related to urinary system. It is a very good and effective cure. In case of urine related disorder in men, give 40-60 ml of its decoction with 2 gm. honey mixed in it. Give this twice a day.
  • Helpful in Boils:Slightly warm its leaves and crush them. Tie it as poultice on the affected area. It cures boils, redness and swelling too.
  • For Hypertension:Give 5-10 drops of the extract of its aerial parts. It is beneficial in controlling blood pressure.
  • Curbs Leukemia:Give 5-10 drops of the extract of its aerial part, twice a day. It is beneficial in blood cancer.
  • For Vaginal disorders:In case of vaginal flow in women, give 40-60 ml decoction with 2 gm. honey mixed in it. Give this twice a day.
  • Treats Headache:Crush its leaves and apply on the forehead. It cures headache.
    • Juice for chest cold: Warm 3 leaves and juice them. This should yield 2-3 tablespoon of leaf of life juice. Add a pinch of salt. Take one tablespoon three times a day for as long as needed.

Dosage :

Leaf Juice – 10 to 20 ml.

Home remedies :

Sotha (Oedema)

Leaves of Parabija (Bryophyllumpinnatum) are curshed to prepare a paste and this pate  is applied  over the sotha (Oedema). It reduces sotha(Oedema).

Raktarsas(Haemorrhoids)

Paste prepared from leaves of Parnabija (Bryphyllumpinnatum) if applied  over bleeding  piles, it stops bleeding as it is very  good raktastambhaka.

Research Corner :

The juice obtained bypressing the leaves of Bryophyllumcalycinum (Crassulaceae) exhibited histamine-blocking activity. The juice contains flavonoid compounds, carbohydrates and mineral salts. A flavonoid fraction (Fraction B) obtained by Partitioning  the juice between n-butanol and water  contained the substance responsible for the antihistamine activity.

Precaution-

Patients under ‘Aspirin’medication should take care to takethe decoction or fresh juice of Parnabeeja as it may interact to reduce the efficacy of Aspirin.
