General Information Of Jati :

Habit- a large nearly glabrous, erect, twining evergreen shrub. Leaves- imparipinnate compound, opposite, terminal leaflets larger than the laterals, ovate, lanceolate, acute or acuminate and laterals are ovate. Flowers- very fragrant, white tinged with pink outside in lax terminal and axillary cymes, calyx lobes long and linear. Fruits- Elliptic, globose berries and black on ripening.

Benefits  Of Jati:

External-

The pste of Jati root is applied over the face to improve the complexion.

Leaves decoction of Jati leaves is used for gargling in case of gingivitis and mouth ulcers.

Application of oil prepared from root and flowers of Jati over the scalp helps in relieving headache,dizziness and vertigo.

Oil prepared from Jati leaves is poured in to ears in case of earache and pus discharge.

The paste of Jatipatra ,root and flowers are applied over the affected area of sin diseases like scabies and itching.

The oil prepared from Jati patra is allied externally over the wound.It helps in early healing.

Juice of Jati flower is poured in o eyes to treat conjunctitis and eye disoders.

root paste of Jati is applied over the bladder area gives the relief from dysuria and dysmenorrhoea.

Root paste of Jata is applied externally over the forehead which gives relief from headache.

The paste of Jati root is applied externally over the penile area in case of erectile dysfunction.

Internal-

By its snigdha and anulomana guna it is used in udavarata and ahana. It is used in  raktadushtijanya diseases being  raktaprasadana.  It is Indicated in mootrakrichchhra being mootrajanana.Decoction of root is useful in klaibya and anartava being vajeekarana and artavajanana and also in kushtha and vishabadha.

Cold infusion of Jati flower is used to treat fever.Dose-40-50ml

Mukhapaka( Stomatitis)

Chewing the leaves of jati( jasminumofficinale ) is very useful in Mukhapaka (Stomatitis).

Vyanga( Freckles )

The paste of jati leaves, jatiphala ( Myristicafragrants ) and water is effective in Vyanga (Freckles ).

Research Corner  Of Jati :

A study was – undertaken to evaluate the effect of oleuropein (Ole) derived from the flowers of Jasminum Officinale on hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication in Hep G 222. 15 cell line in vitro and duck hepatitis B Virus (DHBV) replication in ducklings in vivo. The extracellular hepatitis B antigen (HBeAg) and hepatitis B surface antigen ( HBsAg ) concentrations in cell culture medium were determined by ELISA. DHBV in duck serum was analyzed by dot blot. Results reveal that one block effectively HBsAg secretion in Help G 2.2.215 cells in a dose-dependent manner (IC (50)=23.2 microg/ml). Ole (80 mg/kg, intraperitoneally, twice daily) also reduced viremia in DHBV – infected ducks.
