  • General Information :

Chavak/Chavya is named as Piper chaba belongs to Piperaceae. Dalhana quoted Chavya as the root of Raja Pippali. The fruits of Piper Cheba are considered as Raja pippali or Chavika. While its root is considered as Chavya. Both are used in Ayurvedicmateriamedica for a long time.

Bhava Mishra quoted the properties of Chavika&ChavikaShoola separately. He quoted the properties of Chavya to those of PippaliMoola.

  • Chavya is a good for diagestive system.It promotes the enzyme sectreation.It ultered the diagestive lining hence used in haemorrhoids and fistula.

Gajapippali (Cavyafruit ) sweetened with honey and sugar is very useful in Raktatisara (blood mixed diarrhoea).

Udara (Ascites)

In case of Udararoga (Ascites) one should take the paste prepared from cavya (Piper chaba) and srngavera (Zingiberofficinale)

Ethanol extract of  piper chaba is investigated in ethyl phenylpropiolate- induced ear edema and carrageenan induced hind  paw edema in rats  extract reduced trasudative and granuloma weight as well as body weight gain and thymus weight of the chronic inflammatory model using cotton pellet  induced granuloma formation in rats . More over extract exhibited analgesic activity on both showed antipyretic activity on yeast – induced hypertheia in rats.

 

 Side effects

It is contraindicated in Person with Pitta imbalance

It may worsen the gastritis,burning sensation in stomach,throat,palm and feet

It is best that it should not be used for long term
