General Information of Amlavetas :
Habit – A tall tree grows upto 60 ft in height. Branches are short and spreading. Leaf- Obovate or obloanceolate shaped, 6 to 12 cm long and 3 to 5 cm broad, with short midrib and leathery texture. Flower – Flowers are light green in colour. Fruit- fruits are spherical or subglobose, 3 to 5 cm in diameter, yellow in colour with 8 to 10 seeds. Pericarp is fleshy. Seeds – 8 to 10 in one fruit embedded in pulp.

Benefits of Amlavetas :
It is ruchikara, deepana, pachana and bhedana, hence it is used in aruchi, agnimandya ajeerna, vibandha, gulma and yakritpleehavridhhi.
It is hridayottejaka in nature hence it is used in hridroga; and udavarta when there is pain in the chest.
it is useful in kasa- shvasa and hikka and being mootrala in ashmari.
root powder is taken in dose of 1 gram, twice a day with Mishri / rock candy in Urticaria/Sheetpitta.
Externally Amlavetas is used for cleaning teeth and sprinkled over the ulcers for quick healing.
External application of root paste of Amlavetas with vinegar on freckle and skin marks is advisiable.
To treat Melasma and wrinckles paste of root powder of Amlavetas with milk is advisiable.
Root powder of Amlavetas in very ow dose for 1-2years is advisiable in chronic renal failure.It is also used in scanty urination due to its diuretics effects.
Decoction is prepared with 1gm of Amlavetas and 100ml of water.It is used in uremia.
External application of root paste of amlavetas with chandana is advisiable in pimples,acne and pigmentation.
Amlavetas is used in jaundice and liver disoders.It improves the liver function in various way.It act as liver tonic and increase the production of bile in liver.It reduces weight and fat
Take the equal quantity of Amlavetas,Dhanyak seeds and Mishri .Prepare the powder .This should be taken in a dose of 1tsf,twice a day with lukewarm water in acidity,indigestion,and digestive weakness.
Udavarta (Upward movement of Vayu)& Adhmana (Flatulance)
Amlavetas powder mixed with matulunga (Citrus medica),hingu and pilu (salvadora persica) ,bid lavan in Person afflicted with udavarta (Upward movement of vayu) and adhmana (Flatulence)

one should take hot water with tripatu (Three types of salts), Hingu (Ferula narthex), Trikatu (Pippali, Maricha & Sunthi) and Amlavetasa (Garcinia Pedunculata) in arshas.
Due to its diuretic action, it is used in scanty urination. In chronic kidney failure, the root powder is taken in very low doses for 1-2 years.
It improves liver function by various ways. It act as liver tonic and increase production of bile in liver. Hence it is used in Jaundice and liver cirrhosis.

Research Corner of Amlavetas:
The bark extract of Garcinia pedunculata was screened for its antioxidant and in vitro antiplatelet aggregating activities. By B-carotene linoleate model for antioxidant assay acetone extract of Garcinia pedunculata exhibited higher antioxidant activity.
Side Effects-
This is avoided in chronic diarrhoea
Not to use in epilepsy
It should not be used in Vatavyadhis like gout,rhumatism
It contains oxalic acid so do not use in uric acid diseases,renal calculi or gall bladder stones
Do not use during pregnancy and breast feeding phase
