General Information Of Amaragandhi Haridra:

Habit – a herb with large root stock, tubers are sessile and thick, cylindric or ellipsoid shaped, pale yellow coloured inside. Leaf- seen in tufts, long petioled, the blade is 30 to 45 cm long and 7 to 12 cm wide, oblong- lanceolate, acute tip, narrowed to the base, glabrous and green on both the sides. Inflorescence – spike inflorescence with long peduncle. Flowers- flowers are white or very pale yellow in color.

Benefits Of Amaragandhi Haridra:

Domestic use for preparing pickles or chutney.

Due to its  deepana, pachana and vatanulomana gunas it is used  in agnimandya and vibandha.

Kalka or phanta should be given internally in raktapitta and pittaja kushtha being kapha pittashamak and for eliminating raktagatapitta . its decoction should not be made as it contains a volatile oil.

It is taken as the blood purifierhence used in skin problems like boil,acne.

It  is very useful in the common cold and cough. Sweetened milk boiled with the turmeric is the popular remedy for cold and cough. It is given in liver ailments and jaundice.

It is also used in  leprosy, intermittent, affections of the liver, dropsy, inflammation and wound healing.

The rhizome of the turmeric plant is highly aromatic and antiseptic.

It is even used for contraception, swelling, insect stings, wounds, whooping cough, inflammation, internal injuries, pimples, injuries, as a skin tonic.

Sweetened milk boiled with the turmeric is the popular remedy for cold and cough. It is given in liver ailments and jaundice.

Rhizome juice of Amragandhi haridra is used to treat intestinal worm in a dose of 10ml.

The paste of Amragandhi haridra rhizome is applied over the joint affected with swelling and pain.

The paste of amragandhi haridra with raktachandan is applied over acne.

Rhiome powder of Amragandhi haridra (2-3gm) with 1 glass of buttermilk is given to treat indigestion.

Kandu (Itching) :

Rhizome of Amragandhi haridra (Curcuma amada) is made into paste and applied externally cures all kinds of Kandu (Itching).

Cough :

Crush some fresh leaves. Warm the paste . add honey. Take one teaspoon twice a day for 3 days

Bruises :

Make a paste of Rhizomes. Apply on the affected part twice a day to get complete cure from bruises.

Fever :

Boil Rhizomes. Take 2 tabalespoon with honey for 3 days

Dosage Of Amaragandhi Haridra:

Kalka – 2 to 4 gm.

Phanta- 25 to 50 ml.

Research Corner Of Amaragandhi Haridra:

Curcuma amada Roxb. Is an important species known as mango ginger due to its characteristic raw mango aroma. The rhizome is rich in essential oils and more than 130 chemical constituents with bio-medical significance have been isolated from it. Also it has given positive results when investigated for its antibacterial, insecticidal, antifungal and antioxidant properties.
