  • General Information :

Morphology- Spilanthesacmella Linn. Habit- Annual, erect or ascending hairy herb. Stem- Hairy, herbaceous Leaf- Opposite, simple, 2 to 5 cm long, and 1 to 4 cm wide, ovate, irregularly crenate or  serrate, glabrous, petioles are upto 1.5 cm long. Inflorescence –  Head inflorescence, 1 to 1.5 cm long, Flower- Achene, oblong or obovoid and compressed.

Pellitory is a perennial herb with numerous spreading, prostrate or ascending branched stems. The stems are hollow, thickened and grow along the ground before turning upward. The plant grows to about 45 cm high. The stems are hairy in the upper portions, glabrous below.

The leaves are smooth, alternate and pinnate with deeply cut segments.

Each stem bears a flower. Flower heads are terminal, large, 2.5-3.5 cm wide with a wide disc. The disk flowers are yellow and ray flowers white, tinged with purple beneath. The fruit has transparent wings.

Roots are tough, cylindrical, 7-15 cm in length, tapering slightly at both ends, with a few hairy rootlets and occasionally topped by bristly remains of leaves, external surface rough brown, shrivelled, bark upto 3 mm thick.

Chewing causes tingling sensation in tongue and lips and causes excessive flow of saliva.

Study done to evaluate the effect of Anacyclus pyrethrum on normal and chemically suppressed immune systems in vivo.Immunostimulant activity increased two fold upon doubling the dosage of extract administered. Significant improvement was observed in the humoral component and a highly significant effect was observed in the cellular omponents of the immunity. The results thus provide a basis for the use of anacyclus pyrethrum as an adaptogen and immunomodulator in Ayurvedic system of medicine.

Mix the churna of Ashwagandha churna 5tsf,Shatavari churna 5tsf,kesar 2 pinches,Akarakara 1tsf,Jayphala 1tsf,amarvel 1.5tsf and salam panja 1/2 tsf .This churna should be taken 1/2tsf with 1 cup of milk twice a day.

Anacyclus Pyrethrum or Akarkara is good remedy for treating Impotence & Erectile dysfunction. It has same function as SILDENAFIL has, but it does not increase blood pressure. It also has lesser side effects as compared to SILDENAFIL.

Premature ejaculation-

Powder is prepared by mixing equal quantity of Akarakara,Damiana and lavangs.This churna should be taken in a dose of 1tsf with 1 cup of milk twice a day.

  • Hemiphlegia

Application of root extract of akarakara is effective in hemiplegia.

Oil prepared with Akarakara root is applied externally over the joints of body in case of joint pain.

Sore Throat-

  • Chemical Composition.

The akarkararoots contain anacyclin, pellitorine, enetriynealcholo, hydrocarolin, inulin, traces of volatile oil and seasamin. They also contain deca, dodeca and teradecatrans-2, trans-4 dienamide, a new series of yramine amides corresponding to the isobutylamides. The presence of polyacetyenic compounds is also reported in the plant.
