General Information :

A large shrub or small tree reaching 9 mtrs.Bark : yellowish , lenticellate , trunk and large branches sometimes spinous. Leaves : 5-9 cm long and 3-6 wide, broadly elliptic, obtuse, very shortly acuminate, glabrous ,  entire or upper part dentate, base rounded or sub acute, with 4-5 pairs of main nerves, petioles 1 cm long. Inflorescence : terminal , pubescent, paniculatecorymbose cyme, flower – small greenish yellow, with disagreeable odour, fruits- pear shaped, small 4 mm long.

·         Benefits

  • EXTERNAL USES :-

Oilment of Agnimantha used in shotha and shoola. Hence warmed leaf be applied to the condition like sprains and swelling.

Leaves are carminative and it has galactoyour property.

  • INTERNAL USES:-

Root decoction of Agnimantha is used in  stomachic .It is also useful in livers disorders.

The decoction of the leaves is used in the  colic pain  and flatulence .white that of the tender plants used for Rhematism.

Leaves Rubbed along with pepper used in cold and fever, also in gonorroea and during convalescence from fever.

Root decoction of Agnimantha is used for obesity.Agnimantha leaves also possess anti-obesity  and metabolism boosting properties.Hence 20 ml of fresh Agnimantha  leaf juice is given twice a day for 3 month to treat the obesity.

Paste of Agnimantha and bamboo leaves is externally applied in case of erysipelas and glandular enlargement.

To treat freckles bark paste with milk is externally applied.

Decoction prepared with Agnimantha root and water is given in swelling of body.

Agnimantha panchanga decoction is given to treat gout.

Agnimantha root powder is given with desi ghee in a dose of 2gm to treat urticaria.

2 gram of Agnimantha root powder  is given with 125mg of Yashad bhasm ,twice a day for 1-2weeks for relief from urticaria.

Decoction of urticaria root is used to treat skin disease.

Sabji prepared with Agnimantha leaves is given in abdominal gas and distension.

Agnimantha root decocxtion is given to treat Chyluria.It can be given with Haritaki decoction.

Agnimantha leaves with Haritaki decoction is used to treat constipation.

In the treatment of piles leaves decoction of agnimantha leaves is given.And poultice is applied on affected body area.

Root of Agnimanthaact as appetitezer and good for didestion.Hence it is used in people having the problems with food digestion  ,abdominal heavyness,and people who feels drowsiness or tiredness after taking meavey.

agnimantha root  improves the digestion and pramotes the proper assimilation of food.

120gram of agnimantha root  bharada  is boiled in 480gram of drinking water.This Pani is called as Agnimantha Pani .This should be taken in a dose of 60-120ml 2-3times a day in case of poor digestion.

Agnimantha root posses anti inflammatory ,antibacterial and anti viral properties .It also subsides the pain.It helps to inhibit the growth of microbes,fight against the infection and reduces the inflammation in lyphadenitis.

To treat lymphadenitis,Root powder of agnimantha should be taken in a dose of 2grams ,two times a day with water.

Decoction prepared with Agnimantha root is used for sitz bath purpose in case of piles.It reduces the pain and swelling.

Burning pain is common symptoms in Neuralgia.to treat this burning pain Agnimantha kwath should be given with 125mg of Mukta pishti and 125ram of raajat Bhasma,twicw a day.

Agnimanthakasaya is very effective in Vasameha.

·         Arsas (Haemorrhoids)

The decoction prepared from the leaves of Agnimantha, Sigru and Asmantaka is used for Avagaha (Tub bath) in Hemorrhoids.

·         GranthiVisarpa (Erysipelas Pustulosum)

Paste prepared from the leaves of Agnimantha and Vamsa is applied in Granthivisarpa (Glandular erysipelas).

·         Urusthambha (Disease related to thigh)

Kwatha prepared from Agnimantha and Karanja is sprinkled and paste of these two drugs is applied externally.

·         Sitapitta (Urticaria)

The curna of Agnimanthataken  with ghee cures sitapitta, Udarda and Kotha within seven days.

·         Research Corner :

1.               The plant has been found to possess hypoglycemic activity.  (Pande M.C. journal of natural integrated Med Ass, 1978, 20 (8), 295. The methanolic extract of C. phlomidis Linn.)(MECP)  leaves shows most of the pharmacological activities characteristic of minor tranquilizers.

2.               Methanolic extract of leaves of C. phlomidislinn (MECP) showed significant inhibitory activity against castor oil induced diarrhea and PGE 2 induced enteropooling in rats. The extract also showed a significant reduction in gastrointestinal motility in characoal meal test in rats.

3.               The treatment with petroleum ether, chloroforms and methanolic fractions of alcoholic extract of clerodendrumphlomidis at a dose of 500-mg/kg b.w,p.o. significantly prevented CC14 induced elevations of liver enzymes. The result indicated that the methanolic fraction was most active among th three fractions (Amitaverma et at/int.J. Pharm Tech Res. 2009,1 (4) pp 1028-1031 ).

4.               Petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and Methanolic extracts of Clerodendrumphlomidis aerial parts at the doses of 100 and 200 ng/kg was evaluated for the analgesic activity using the hot plate and acetic acid induced abdominal constrictions in mice. The study showed that the methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of cleroderumphlomidis at dose 200mg/kg exhibited significant analgesic activity.

5.               The methanolic extract of the roots of Clerodendrumphlomidis (verbenaceae) showed significant in-vitro anti-oxidation activity in the  anti radical, superoxide scavenging, anti lipid peroxidation, hydroxyl radical scavenging and nitric oxide scavenging , assays, (Gokani, R.H., et al,Evaluation of antioxidants.
