  • General Information :

Ginger is a flowering plant is grown all over India. It grows best in fertile and sandy soild and easily adopted to warm climates.It produces pink and white flower buds in cluster.These flower buds bloom in yellow flowers.It has annual leafy stem which grows 3-4 feet in height..  Its edible root grows underground. The leaves resemble banboo leaves which grows 1-1 ½ ft above the ground .Ginger rhizome vary in color depending upon different types.

It may be yellow, white and red in color with brownish skin may be thin or thick. Both fresh and dry rhizome of ginger is used.

  • Benefits-


External Use-

Paste of sunthi used in inflammation. External application of Sunthilepa is also beneficial in Headache. Dried ginger is used for chest pain, low back pain and stomach pain. For burns  on the skin, some people use juice extracted from ginger for healing. Oil prepared from ginger are also applied on the skin to relieve pain.

Internal Use-

Adrakacabbe used in different forms like fresh, dried and powedered, juice or oil.

Adrak is a known as ability to ease nausea , helpful for sea sickness and motion. Women having morning sickness were given in beverages with Adraka’s  during to the  period of three months, (Trimester) especially as a pregnancy and when Compared with Women given a placebo, having little weight , disgust so strong it makes you feel sick in a large majority of the case.

  • Cough –

Adraka’s  juice with honey  drinks are three to four times a day for a bad throat.  Ginger is known to clear the body’s microcirculatory channels, You may add adraka’s  to tea and drink for quick relief from sore throat and nasal congestion.

Upper respiratory tract infections, cough and bronchitis can be cured by ginger.

Dry ash of shunthi  with honey is used in Kasa and Shwas. Nasya of adrak rasa and jiggery is used in  kaphajshirahshool.Adrak Rasa and honey is give in whooping cough

  • Ovarian Cancer Treatment.

Adraka’s  powder has shown to promote cellular death in ovarian cancer cells, thereby .




  • Cold-

Adrka’s Juice are You may also drind this concoction of you feel a cold coming, and effective if you also have fever resulting from the cold.

  • Pain Killer-

Adraka’s Juice makes an excellent pain killer, when applied externally .applyadraka’s juice to the forehead with toothache apply to the external area on the cheek or jaw area.

Gives relief from joint pains. Prepare the decoction of  people leaves and ginger roots Ginger and til tail preparation is effective in gout.

  • Improve blood circulation

The vitamins, minerals and amino acids in adraka tea can help restore and improve blood circulation that may help decrease the chance of cardiovascular problems. Adrakas may prevent fat from depositing In the arteries helping to prevent heart attacks and stroke.It works on heart and circulatory system by its biological properties.Hence it reduces the swelling over the body and provide strength to heart.It is also used in Filaria.

A cup of ginger juice, garlic juice, lemon juice and a cup of apple cider vinegar used in chest pain.


  • Adraka’s Tea

To brew your own Adraka’s tea, either drop a few slices of fresh adrak in boiling water or 2 tablespoon of freshly shredded adrak in hot water .let cool and drink.






  • Induces appetite:

If you’re having trouble with your appetite and can’t feel hungry anymore, then ginger may help you out. Simply eat a piece of chopped ginger before your meal. Ginger would boost your appetite and induce the digestive juices.

Prepare a decoction of equal quantities of Tinospora, atis, adrak root and nut grass is good in indigestion.Fresh ginger is used to treat acute bacterial dysentery. In case of any kind of tooth problems, chew ripe ginger pieces. Let the ginger juice enter to gums and teeth.In dyspepsia harad, ginger root and sandhava salt with warm water is benefical.

Warm decoction of ginger root with pittapapda enhances the body power cures thirst. It should take daily in 20-30 ml.Equal quantities of powder of ajowan , rock salt, harad and ginger root is used for loss of digestion.Give 10-20 gm of ginger juice with same amount of lemon juice mixed in it for anorexia.In case of Diarrhoea decoction of ginger root, flesh of thorn apple, coriander, mochras and netrabala is effective.It cures diarrhea and fever due to pitta. Decoction of  10gm coriander and 10 gm ginger root twice a daily cures the diarrhea.Give equal amounts of ginger root powder and antidysenterica with rice to the patient..


  • Anti-emetic action:

Ginger helps in getting rid of nausea and vomiting. So, if you’re feeling nauseous, motion-sick or airsick, mix some honey and ginger and you’d be good to go. Though exact mechanism is unknown, studies have proven ginger’s efficacy in nausea and vomiting.


  • Boosts Immunity.

Ginger aids in improving body’s immune system. It decreases the risk of abdominal bacterial infections, and also fights throat infection and cough.





  • Chest Pain

Chest pain can be cured by using dry ginger powder. Mix dry ginger powder and sugar in tender coconut water. Drink it to cure chest pain.


  • Ginger Baths:

Take 1 tablespoon of dry ginger powder and mix it with an equal amount of baking soda. Slowly and gently rub your body for cleansing it .

Dry ginger powder can be added to milk and sugar to get rid of urinary infections

Analysis of these formulations have shown rich starch content. So commonly Satwa formulations are called as the starchy preparations of the herbs.

Among them adrakasatwa is well known and generally used by the traditional Ayurvedic Practitioners. But getting Original AdrakasSatwa is a difficult task. This is because, procedure of Obtaining the Satwa is time consuming and laborious.

Ingredients required:
Well matured, non infested rhizomes of Ginger (Zingiberofficinale) -400 grams
Water- 400 ml



  • Chemical Composition.

The Chemical Composition and antioxidant activity of adraka root determined. The antioxidant components polyphenols, vitamin C, B, carotene, flavonoids and tannins.  Antioxidant assays such as free radical scavenging activity, reducing power and total antioxidant activity out for ethanol, methanol, acetone, 80% methanol and 80% ethanolic extracts. Protein and fat of sample were 5.08 and 3.72g/100 g respectively.
