General Information :

Kalihari (Gloriosasuperba) is an herbaceous tall glabrous branching climber. This is a rainy season plant and sprouts well in warm, humid and tropical conditions. Habit – herbaceous tall glabrous branching climber. Root stock – arched, fleshy- white, cylindric, 15 to 30 cm long, 2.5 to 4 cm wide, pointed at each end, bifurcately branched of V-shaped, roots are fibrous. Stem- annual, 3 to 6 mtr long, Leaves – sessile or nearly so, 7.5 to 15 cm long, 2 to 4.5 cm wide, ceolate, tip ending in a tendril like spiral. Nerves are parallel. Flowers- large, axillary, solitary remains for about for about  7 days , yellow and crimson red coloured. Fruit – capsule, 45 cm long 2 cm wide, linear – oblong.

Tuber powder and roasted common salt in the ratio of 1:2 is orally taken in a dose of 2 gm for asthma and arthritis.

a paste of tuber is rubbed on stone and apply on affected place.

Lice

Kalihari juice leaves is applied over the head surface in case of headlice.

Paralysis

Shodhit / purified tuber slice is chewed thrice a day. This is done for 15 days.

 

 

Indralupta (Alopecia)

After doing venesection the part should be deeply scraped then apply the paste of root of Langali (Gloriosasuperba) in case of indralupta (Alopecia).

Apache (Scrofula)

Oil prepared from one part of paste of langali (Gloriosasuperba) and four parts Nirgundi (Vitexnegundo) Juice should be instilled in case of Apaci (Scrofula).

Formulation (Kalp) :

Kasisaditaila, Langalirasayana.

 

Dosage :

0.25 to 0.5 gm. As katupaushtik

3 to 6 gm. For expulsion of foetus.

 

Research Corner :

The methanol extract of the rhizomes of Gloriosasuperba Linn (Colchicaceae) and its subsequent fractions in different solvent system were screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities. Excellent antifungal sensitivity was expressed by the n-butanol fraction against Candida albicans and Candida glaberata (up to 90%) and against Trichophyton longifusus (78%) followed by the chloroform fraction against Microsporumcanis (80%).
