General Information :

Habit – tall erect grass reaching upto 15 ft. in height, stem- erect from a stout root stock, solid. Leaves- 30 to 75 cm long, 3 to 6 mm wide, narrowly linear, rigid, coriaceous. Inflorescence- long Panicle, 20 to 60 cm long, lanceolate, silky-hairy, Spikelets 4 mm long, lanceolate, glumes are 4 in number.

The industrialization of lignocellulose conversion is impeded by expensive cellulose enzymes required for saccharification in bioethanol production. Current research undertakes cellulose production from pretreated Saccharumspontaneum through Trichoderma viride HN1 under submerged fermentation conditions, Pretreatment of substrate with 2% NaOHresulated in 88% delignification.
